Dr Olly Owen is a lecturer at Oxford University African Studies Centre/Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology and a Research Fellow in International Development, Oxford Department of International Development (ODID), University of Oxford, UK. Prior to joining ODID, Olly studied for a DPhil at Oxford University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, where he undertook an ethnographic study of the Nigerian Police Force. Dr Olly has worked in London and Lagos, first with West African civil society groups, and then as an investment risk analyst covering the West Africa sub-region. Dr Olly holds a degree in Social Anthropology from University of Cambridge, and an MSc in African Politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies. He has also worked as a journalist and consultant. He has also (in partnership with Dr Jonny Steinberg of Oxford African Studies Centre) been awarded a British Academy Partnership and Mobility grant to bring African scholars of policing to Oxford for an extended period, culminating in a workshop on contemporary transformations in African policing in May 2013. Dr Olly is also an expert in Environmental issues , working closely with the Ekiti State Government of forestry. Dr Olly Owen provides continuous technical support to the organisation.
