Election and Youth
Engagement Project
(EYEP)
Introduction
The 2023 elections in Nigeria provided an opportunity for young people to actively participate in the electoral process. The high level of youth engagement before and during the elections was commendable, but the post-elections mood indicates a need for greater citizen action and response. Many young people are dissatisfied with the outcome of the elections, this may lead to disengagement with the electoral process, to avoid this their energy needs to be harnessed and channeled towards more strategic and impactful participation in the electoral process.
Project Objective
- To improve knowledge of the young people on the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
- To promote a transparent process and voters’ freedom.
- To increase youth awareness and understanding of their role in the political process and their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
- To promote youth participation in the electoral process, including voter registration, voter education, and election monitoring.
- To empower youth to advocate for their interests and hold elected officials accountable.
