Micheal O’Brien-Onyeka is the Senior Vice President, Africa Field Office of Conservation International. Prior to this position he served as the  Executive Director of Greenpeace Africa, which he joined 2012, after over 20 years working in Africa, Europe and the Middle East with a diverse range of non-governmental organizations, including Amnesty International in Nigeria as Press and Public Relations Officer (1992-1994) and later Campaigns & Outreach Coordinator (1995-1997); the International Secretariat of Amnesty International in the United Kingdom – where he led a global campaign against torture and worked on building consensus around a global Arms Trade Treaty; The African Child Policy Forum in Ethiopia – where he established the content and architecture for an Africa-wide assessment of states’ compliance with children-related policies and statutes; the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in Iraq – where he developed grassroots conflict resolution and civil society empowerment programmes; and Oxfam GB in Kenya where he focused on engendering civic engagement in regional institutions and regional integration processes in the Horn, East and Central Africa region. Mr. O’Brien-Onyeka has a degree in Sociology, and a Masters in International Law and Diplomacy. He considers himself a passionate Pan-Africanist
